NGA Law and our clients’ stories in the iPaper – The single men becoming fathers through surrogacy

NGA has supported the iPaper with a long-read article shining a spotlight on the real-life stories of single men building families through surrogacy in the UK and the USA. Hoping to tell the human side of why men might choose to start a family on their own, the piece features several NGA clients Neil Robertson, Nick Wilkins and David Taylor, as well as Brilliant Beginnings surrogate Trish Lapworth, who carried a baby for a single dad in the UK. Natalie Gamble is also quoted in the piece, saying:

“There’s much more awareness of surrogacy as an option now, and I think there’s more openness generally about same-sex marriage and different forms of families” says Natalie Gamble, a lawyer specialising in fertility and surrogacy law. “There’s a misconception and mistrust of single men in particular who want to become parents. My experience is that they’re no different than any of the other parents that we work with. The desire to be a parent, to be a father, is a very human one.”

At NGA Law, we are proud to champion and represent all family forms, knowing that children thrive with love and honesty no matter what the structure of their family or how it was formed. We led the campaign to have the law changed to enable single parents to apply for parental orders, winning a High Court declaration that the law was discriminatory in 2016 which ultimately led to a government-backed legislation change in 2019.   You can read the full iPaper piece here.
